DIFFERENTIATION WITH TECHNOLOGY

Image
The remedial instructional lesson plan that I created for my visual learners: Dame and Harp; and kinesthetic learner: Komi, reviewed multi-digit numbers by two-digit numbers multiplication. The lesson was designed to help students develop mastery of using the standard algorithm to multiply multi-digit whole numbers by first, using the area model and partial products strategy, and relating them to the standard algorithm. Aside from the use of math manipulatives to help deepen students understanding, no technology was incorporated into the lesson. If I had to incorporate technology into each day’s lesson, I would use Pear Deck to enhance students’ learning. “Enhancing students learning with the use of technology helps students develop a refined understanding of the content and allows students to demonstrate their understanding of what they learned aside from using non-traditional tools” (Keren-Kolb, 2013).      Pear Deck is a Goog...

DESIGNING A DIFFERENTIATED LESSON PLAN

My field experience takes place in a classroom with twenty-six sixth graders. These students are now learning about ordering rational numbers in order from least to greatest with and without a number line. During an observation, I noticed that students displayed difficulty with ordering decimals and were not proficient with writing decimals as fractions; a strategy that students can use to compare decimals. I expressed my concerns with my mentor teacher, and she shared with me that students are not proficient in writing decimals as fractions and based on the results from an assessment students took earlier this school year, they need remediation. “Making connections between fractions and decimals could enable learner to achieve a better understanding of rational numbers” (Braithwaite et al., 2022). To address the need of remediation of skills, I created a differentiated lesson plan that will help students convert percents to decimals and fractions using the hundr...

LEARNING STYLES ANALYSIS

The Connection Between Learning Styles and Human Development      “The environment is seen as one of the major factors affecting learning” (Journal of Community Nursing, 2021). Knowing students learning styles helps teachers plan for instruction that is most appropriate for students’ academic success. However, a student’s life experiences play a major role in their development. Dame and Harp are both visual learners. They need to see information, write it down, and have someone model for them what is expected of them to do, to best understand new learning. Komi is a kinesthetic learner. She needs something tactile in her hands or be physically involved in an activity, to best understand new learning. Just as these students’ learning styles differ, so do their life experiences.      Building relationships with my students has helped me see the connection between their personal lives and their academic success. Dame is a competitor. He’s very acti...

ASSESSING TECHNOLOGY-BASED RESOURCES FOR DIFFERENTIATION

Image
You ever find yourself trying to differentiate instruction while keeping students engaged in their learning? According to Dunne (2019), differentiating our instruction methods can help to keep students engaged and ultimately better meet their diverse individual needs. Take a moment and read about three resources that will help you differentiate instruction and get students excited for learning.  Kahoot!      I f you haven't used Kahoot yet, then you need to go check it out now!       Kahoot is an online game-based learning site that allows teachers to create fun and engaging games to reinforce new learning. " Kahoot combines the dynamics of play with the benefits of student response systems, creating a stimulating and motivating environment conducive to the active involvement of students in their learning process" (Correia & Santos, 2017). To create a game, you can either create your own questions, use questions from...
